The groups' search for Jeredy in the Lowlands had been going smoothly. Well, until they had to put their objective on hold after Bren had tripped over something. However, less concerned with whether or not the nerd had actually tripped on his own feet, the group was far more amazed at what he had probably tripped on! It was an unconscious girl lying in the dunes.
"Ow," the boy with the glasses groaned, rubbing his backside in an attempt to comfort it, "Talk about a bad place to sleep!". "Are you okay," their leader asked as he helped Bren to his feet and the barely injured male answered as if he had just returned for war, "Yeah, I think so.". "This isn't good," Jon's voice caught the attention of the two, as well as everyone else in the gang, as they looked over to see what he was talking about. Said male was kneeling beside the passed out teen as he held the female in his arms. Now that she had been lifted off the sand, they could clearly see how she was breathing raggedly. Her brunette hair was starting to turn into dried hay from having been in the sun so long, and her shoulders that would have been covered up by the jacket hanging loosely around her arms were exposed to the desert sun, leaving them sunburnt. "What do you mean," Jinja asked from where she stood beside Beyal, worry now practically written over her, as well as the rest of the group's, face. Jon himself was obviously concerned as he looked up at them and answered, "Whoever she is, she'll die soon if nobody does anything.".
"We have to help her!"
Beyal's declaration had been so straight foward-so sudden-that it resulted with everyone to stare at him with cowbell sized eyes. However, after the initial shock had worn off, Chase grinned himself as he said, "Well, I don't think we can just leave her here!". Beyal returned his smile as the young leader looked at the group and asked loud enough that every member would hear, "Any objections?". For a moment, nobody said anything. Or really even moved. It was like his question had turned them all into life-like statues.
Then, Dax was the first one to move, walking towards Chase and thew an arm around his shoulders. With a grin, the Lowlander answered, "You seriously think we're going to let this kid die, don't you?". So a I'm fine with it from Dax. Chase turned his attention to Jinja as she shrugged, a grin on her own face as she said, "Why shouldn't we? We'll be held responsible if she dies out here!". "True," Jeredy's son agreed. And Jinja had no complaints. Now the only one they really needed to hear from was-- "You guys are serious?"
Bren.
"What're you talking about," Dax raised an eyebrow as all attention turned onto the nerd. Bren's face began to distort as he answered, obviously a little scared, "You guys are actually going to help a stranger?! I mean, this could be some kind of hoax!". He pointed at the unidentified girl as he nearly screamed, "S-She could be some sort of criminal or something! Or she's the bait! And we're about to be mugged!". It seems like he would have gone on forever if Jon hadn't spoken up, saying the boy's name firmly.
Now all attention was on Jon again. However, his face was firm and held a kind of...angry aura inside. "Do you really want to leave this girl here," his voice was stern as he spoke, "Do you really think you can handle the idea of knowing she died? And knowing that you didn't help her? Do you really think you could comfort the family and explain your reasoning if we ever come across them?".
Apparently, that had been enough to push the obviously nervous teen in the right direction. "Fine," the male answered, obviously a little reluctant to actually agreeing. "Atta boy," Dax grinned as he gave the nerd a good pat on the back. "But," Bren said, "if we get attacked by bandits, its not my fault!".
"Now that thats settled," Jon said as he picked the unconscious girl up bridal style and stood, "Is there anywhere where we can rest while we wait for this girl's fever to drop?". Jinja was the one to answer, pointing over her shoulder with her thumb as she said, "There was a cave a little ways back. We could go there.". "It'll have to do," Jon muttered and allowed her to lead them to said shelter.
However, as Dax was turning to join the rest of his friends, something caught his attention out of the corner of his eye. The Lowlander stopped and looked in the direction of the object he had thought he had seen. No, it was there. The top half of it was sticking out of the sand, as if waiting to be discovered. The dark skinned male looked back up in the direction his group had gone, and, noticing how he could easily catch up, Dax crouched in front the mysterious object. Sifting through the sand with his fingers, he realized he had found a core. It was blue, signaling the owner worked alongside Core-Tech. The Lowlander watched the glowing orb in the middle seem to pulse rather weakly for a minute or two before he muttered, "You belong to that girl, don't you?". Without an actual answer, the Lowlander picked the core up and shoved it into his pocket as he said, "Well, I bet she'll be worried sick about you when she wakes up and you're not there!". And with that, the male raced off to join his friends, hoping they hadn't noticed his temporary leave.
